//Intention..

For my Final Major Project I am creating a typography-based sculpture/Installation that combines conceptual art with contemporary graphic design.

It will feature two oil pipes attached to the wall with black, 3-Dimensional text spilling out, dripping and flowing all the way down onto the floor and out like liquid. The texture of the typography will give it motion, even though it is a static piece.

To make the text look oil-like, I’m experimenting with a few different ‘recipes’ I’ve found like a mixture of paint and corn syrup, which makes the paint appear shiny.

//Significance..

The concept is that this represents a stream
of consciousness. The oil is a metaphor for Information. The right kind of information can fuel, ignite and feed the human mind, life, and art.

The letters that ‘flow’ out may just look like a flow of oil from a distance but on closer inspection form words and sentences, quotes and thoughts that allow the observer the opportunity to look at things from a different point of view,
or simply evoke an emotional response.

A select few of my favourite quotes to be included so far:

“Objective reality is different for different observer’s”

Albert Einstein

‘’Why are words like ‘fuck’ and ‘cunt’ regarded as such bad words when they describe such beautiful things, and words such as ‘murder’ or ‘torture’ we can happily use to describe the journey into work in the morning?’’

Stephen Fry

‘’Computer games don't effect kids, I mean if Pac-Man had effected us as kids we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.’’

Kristian Wilson, Nintendo Inc. 1989

//Logistics..

I’ve already secured most of the materials that I’m going to need including the pipes that I’ve found from scrap, some of the 3D wooden letters and the source to acquire lots more at a good price.
The stream and ‘puddle’ of letters will be pre-put together, I will just have to drill 4 holes in the wall, screw in the pipes, arrange the blocks of letters and then fill in the holes afterwards.

Equipment List. So far…
Oil Pipes x2
Black Paint
Black Gloss Paint
Corn Syrup
Glue Gun
Glue sticks
Wooden 3D letters of assorted size x1000’s
